Learn More about the PTA

What is the PTA?
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a voluntary organization
bringing together parents and teachers of students in a particular
school or school district. This group of volunteers has a special
interest in the success and welfare of the students and the school.
Any individual who supports the objectives of the PTA is welcome to
become a member. For membership information, please email Ms. Diana

What is the
PTA's Mission?
The PTA’s mission is to support and speak on behalf of children
and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental
bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting
children. Our mission is also to assist parents in developing the
skills they need to raise and protect their children and to
encourage parents and public involvement in the public schools of
this nation.

What are the
Objectives of the PTA?
To promote the
welfare of all children in home, school, community, and place of
worship.
To raise the
standard of home life.
To secure adequate
laws for the care and protection of children.
To create a closer
relationship between home and school, which parents and teachers may
cooperate efficiently in the education of children.
To develop between
educations and the general public such united efforts as will secure
for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical,
mental, social, and spiritual education.

What does the PTA
do?
The PTA works for children, meets together, studies problems,
supports teachers, volunteers in schools, attends workshops on
parents, and becomes informed on issues regarding children. It has
been proven that children have a better chance of achieving in
school when parents are involved with the school The PTA is one way
to become involved. As a PTA member, you are more informed and
involved as a parent. The benefits you receive as a PTA member are
opportunities to meet and talk with other parents who have the same
worries and concerns. The PTA also provides educational
opportunities at the local and state level.

What is the
Florida PTA?
The Florida PTA is the largest statewide volunteer organization
working exclusively on behalf of children. Founded in 1921, the
state office provides different services to the local PTA units.
Every president of a local PTA unit receives a subscription to the
Florida PTA Bulletin and a Florida PTA Handbook, which serves as a
guide to local units in writing bylaws, understanding parliamentary
procedure, determining the duties of officers and committees,
preparing budgets, and conducting PTA activities and information for
every officer and committee chair.
A Leadership Conference is held every summer with workshops of
interest to everyone involved in the PTA. An Annual Sate Convention
is held each fall for the purpose of selecting the legislation
platform for the year and the elections of officers every two year.
Every local PTA is encouraged to attend and take part. For more

What is the
National PTA?
The National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy
organization in the United States. It is a not-for-profit
association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens
active in their schools and communities. The PTA is a leader in
reminding our nation of its obligations to children. It has nearly
6.5 million members working in 26,000 local chapters in all 50
states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in
the Department of Defense schools in the Pacific and Europe. To find
