2008 - 2009 Teacher of
the Year Celebration
Ms. Elizabeth Dauphin & Ms.
Kennetha Jones

2008-2009 Teacher of the Year

My journey into the field of education started at Miami-Dade Community College
where I received an AA degree in Elementary Education. I then went
on to Florida
Memorial
College
now known as Florida
Memorial
University
where I received my BS in Elementary Education. I also have a MS
degree in Urban Education from
Florida
International
University
In
the fall of 1998 my teaching career took flight at
Melrose
Elementary School. I
taught first grade my first year and fourth grade my second year of
teaching. After 2 years, I transferred to
Hialeah
Gardens
Elementary School where I taught third
grade. I also had the honor to sponsor Future Educators of America
from 2000-2004. In December of 2004, I was given the opportunity to
work with students and teachers as a Reading Leader at
Lakeview
Elementary School. I am
currently the Reading First Reading Coach at Lakeview and I work
with students and teachers in grades K-3. I truly enjoy my job as a
Reading Coach because I get to work with both teachers and students
in a joint effort to improve student performance in the areas of
Reading
and Language Arts. I feel as though I have the best of both worlds
because I get to help teachers reach their students and I get to
help students reach their full learning potential. Although I am
faced with many challenges here at Lakeview, my passion for helping
children learn to read continues to grow daily.
In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing poetry. I have
one daughter, Quinnesha Brown who teaches sixth grade Geography at
M. A. Milam K-8 Center. I also have a son-in-law Marvin Brown, Jr
who works for the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
It is an honor as well as a
pleasure to be “Teacher of the Year” for Lakeview Elementary School.
This is an award that I will treasure forever.
